Enlisting Coaches In The Effort To Prevent Domestic Violence

Coaches can have a big impact on kids on and off the field. With that in mind, a group working to prevent domestic violence gathered together a couple hundred coaches in Charlotte Thursday. They discussed how to grow players into respectful, young men.

The group A Call To Men knows how to get coaches to listen up. Call in Carolina Panthers Coach Ron Rivera.

“When I started here, the very first thing I put up on my first PowerPoint: be a man,” Rivera told the coaches.

NEW ORLEANS - Brandon Beane, the Carolina Panthers’ acting general manager, is standing next to the tunnel that leads to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome field. He wears a general manager quality pin-striped suit and brown shoes.

Marty Hurney, whom the Panthers fired as general manager in October, never dressed like that.

”Marty wasn’t interested in fashion,” Beane says.

Beane, 36, is. He also, one would suppose, is interested in becoming Carolina’s full-time general manager. But he won’t say it. A courteous no comment is all I get.

Carolina Panthers Lose To Chiefs In Emotional Game

The Carolina Panthers lost to the Chiefs Sunday in what was an emotional scene in Kansas City. The game was played a day after one of the Chiefs' starting linebackers killed his girlfriend and then himself.

Chiefs' linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend early Saturday morning, and then drove to the team's practice facility and killed himself in front of his coach Romeo Crennel and general manager.

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he’s searching for answers to solving the team’s string of disappointing losses. He just isn’t finding them.

“If we were losing games by 14 points, OK, we're not good enough. But when you lose close games, you are good enough. There's something missing,” Rivera said Monday during his weekly press conference at Bank of America stadium. “There's something we have to find and we've got to get past and through those things, and we've got to make plays.”
