Drive-Through Christmas At Charlotte Motor Speedway

Ladies and gentlemen... start your "sleighs"!

Crews have been working to tranform Charlotte Motor Speedway into a drive-through Christmas village. Visitors will pay $20 per car to wind their way through the 2.5 mile "Carolina Christmas" display.

Carolina Christmas will operate from November 22 through January 2 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

SPX To Stay, Expand In Charlotte

Fortune 500 company SPX has decided to stay in Charlotte, build a new global headquarters and transfer up to 180 additional jobs here. State and local government have pledged incentives worth up to $9 million if SPX delivers on the new jobs.

Half of the incentives come from the state's job development grant fund, the other half from the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. SPX CEO Chris Kearney says the $9 million incentive package was critical.

UNC Charlotte Veterans Use Uniforms As Art Canvas

On Thursday, communities celebrated veterans with banquets and parades. A group of former soldiers at UNC Charlotte marked the holiday by turning their combat uniforms into poster art.

It took Felipe Godinez about 45 minutes to completely demolish the camouflage Army fatigues he wore in Iraq.

"You don't think that it would take a lot to cut up a uniform, but it does," says Godinez.

Joseph-Beth Files Chapter 11

Last week, Joseph-Beth Booksellers announced it's closing its store in SouthPark Mall.
This week, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Joseph-Beth's financial troubles are no surprise. Last week, the company announced it's shutting down stores in Charlotte and Pittsburgh.

And in announcing its bankruptcy filing, the Cincinnati-based company says it will close a store in Cleveland and another in Nashville that operates under the name Davis-Kidd Booksellers. A chapter 11 filing allows the company to try to reorganize.

NC And SC Reach Catawba River Settlement

North and South Carolina have reached a settlement in their dispute over Catawba River water, heading off what could have been a years-long showdown in the U.S. Supreme Court.

South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster worried North Carolina would siphon off too much water, and leave his state dry, so to speak. So back in 2007, he sued North Carolina saying that the state's use of the Catawba could endanger South Carolina. The two states have now reached a preliminary agreement that gives South Carolina more say-so in its northern neighbor's water decisions.
