Industrial designer William Moggridge died on Saturday at the age of 69. He is most well-known for inventing the clamshell design of the laptop. Melissa Block and Audie Cornish have more.

On Monday, bomb squad investigators investigated the home of an Iraqi-British couple that was murdered while on vacation in the French Alps. Also killed were the man's mother-in-law and a French cyclist. Police say that extreme violence was used in the slayings, but the perpetrators are unknown.

Relentless fundraising efforts paid off last month for President Obama and Mitt Romney. Their campaign said today they each took in more than $110 million.

The debate over same-sex marriage has collided with the world of professional football in a loud and public way. Let's roll back. It started with Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, who's a vocal supporter of legalizing same-sex marriage, an issue on the Maryland ballot this November.

The strike that shut schools in Chicago on Monday illustrates a larger, national trend: Teachers unions are having a harder time getting what they want.

For decades, teachers unions have been among the most powerful lobbying groups in nearly every state — and have been arguably even more powerful at the local level, where they've often been able to unseat school board members and even mayors who crossed them.
