CORRECTION: An earlier version of our voter guide inadvertently left off one candidate for an At-Large seat on the Charlotte City Council. Libertarian Steven DiFiore. He did take part in our survey and we have updated the guide to include his entry. We apologize for this error.

Tuesday, November 7 is Election Day.

Which means this is the season of voter guides.

But we in public radio know the power of hearing from someone directly. So our voter guide features the candidates in their own voices.

We sent an invitation to every candidate for Charlotte City Council who's in a contested race on Tuesday's ballot. And we gave them a phone number to call.

Each candidate then recorded their name, party and the seat they're running for. Then they answered two key questions;

1 – The most important issue for me is … and if elected I would fix/address this issue by doing the following. 2 – If you, the voter, haven’t made up your mind yet, this may help. Here's one thing about me that may sway your vote.

Below you'll see a list of candidates and their recorded messages. If you'd like to read more just click on the candidate's name and you will be taken to their campaign website.

Next to some of the candidate's names you will see (NR) which means they did not respond by our deadline.

In order to give you the full picture of who is going to be on the next Charlotte City Council, we are also including the names and websites of those district representatives who are running unopposed in the general election.

These are not the only races on your ballot so we have also compiled a voter information guide for candidates for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.

If you're looking for information about the candidates for Charlotte's Mayor, you can listen to the full WFAE Mayoral Debate, or if you prefer, a summary report.
