Charlotte School Of Law Files Federal Lawsuit For Unfair Treatment

Charlotte School of Law

The Charlotte School of Law has filed a federal court lawsuit against the American Bar Association, arguing that the Association acted “arbitrarily and capriciously” against the now-closed school.

The for-profit school was forced to shut down last August, 11 years after it opened. The U.S. Department of Education had pulled federal loan money from the law school after the American Bar Association put it on probation for its low bar passage rate and for accepting too many unqualified students.

In the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, the school contends that the bar association violated standards for fairness and due process in its dealings with the school. The suit also claims that the bar association inconsistently applied its standards among law schools.
