Charlotte Talks Local News Roundup: More Guns at CMS; City Council Explores Four Year Terms

Friday, Nov. 16, 2018

An alarming number of guns continue to pop up on CMS campuses all over the county.  The idea of four-year terms for Charlotte City Council could be put to your vote next year.  Now that Amazon has chosen two other cities as their 2nd headquarters, we’ll get a chance to see the offer we made.  And the I-77 toll road will not make its deadline of being fully open by the end of the year. Mike Collins and reporters detail those and other stories.

On today's Local News Roundup:

In the 2 ½ weeks since the fatal shooting at Butler High School in Matthews, there have been an alarming number of guns found on other CMS campuses. The guns have appeared in schools all around the county, and the incidents are prompting ongoing conversations about how to keep guns out of our schools.

The notion of four year terms for Charlotte City Council could get a voter referendum in the 2019 Election, after the Council’s Budget and Effectiveness Committee discussed the issue this week. Who on council is for and against?

Now that Amazon’s HQ2 locations have been announced, city officials say they’ll release records for Charlotte’s bid for the headquarter location. What key details may be in those records?

The I-77 Toll lanes will not fully open by the end of this year as scheduled. When drivers can expect to see open express lanes and why won’t Cintra (the company in charge of the project) face fines for being late?

Charlotte Talks host Mike Collins

Mike Collins will have those stories and much more with our roundtable of reporters on the Charlotte Talks Local News Roundup, this morning at 9 on 90.7 WFAE.

Guests:

Ann Doss Helms, reporter for the Charlotte Observer
