Charlotte Talks: Mike and the Mayor Discuss Four Year Terms, Elections, Guns in CMS Schools, Bonds

Thursday, November 15th, 2018

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles joins host Mike Collins to talk about the passing of the $223 million in bonds, $50 million of which are earmarked for affordable housing.  Also, we get her take on the Democratic sweep of county commission and the role of women on the outcome of this election. And since guns in schools is a community problem, we ask about what Charlotte can do about it.  Plus, we take your questions on this edition of "Mike and the Mayor" on Charlotte Talks

One year after her historic election as Charlotte’s first African-American female mayor, Vi Lyles joins Charlotte Talks for a post-election edition of "Mike and the Mayor".

We’ll talk about the passing of $223 million in bonds in Charlotte in this election-- $50 million of which go towards affordable housing, one of the mayor’s chief priorities. There’s also bond money going towards neighborhood improvements and transportation. We’ll discuss where the money will be spent.

There were also several shakeups in local elections during this midterm - we get the mayor’s response on the outcome and her take on the women's vote and the rise of women in politics today. .

A fatal shooting in a CMS high school and the appearance of guns in several other Charlotte-area schools in the past few weeks is not only a school problem, but a city problem. We discuss that and more with Mayor Vi Lyles and take your questions as well, on the next Charlotte Talks.

Guest:

Vi Lyles, Mayor of Charlotte
