Charlotte Talks: Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author Joseph Ellis and "American Dialogue"

Monday, November 19, 2018

A look back at our founding fathers. In his new book “American Dialogue”, historian Joseph Ellis covers everything from what the words “pursuit of happiness” and “we the people” really meant back then, to how the founders might have handled some of today’s difficult topics. Guest host Erik Spanberg is joined by Joseph Ellis for a conversation about what Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Adams said about important issues and how we can apply their wisdom to today’s political rhetoric.

On the next Charlotte Talks...

Pulitzer Prize winning historian Joseph Ellis is one of the nation’s greatest scholars of American History.

He’s written many books about the founding fathers, but his latest book, American Dialogue: The Founders and Us, looks back to America’s founding and at Washington, Jefferson, Adams and Madison to ponder the question “What would the founders think?”

Ellis looks at racism, economic inequality, imperialism and other topics from the perspective of these founding fathers of our nation in an effort to understand how we might apply their wisdom to the most difficult political issues of the present day.

Joseph Ellis joins guest host Erik Spanberg from the Charlotte Business Journal for that conversation.
