CMPD Investigating Shooting Death In East Charlotte

CMPD's homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man found with a gunshot wound early Wednesday on Atmore Street, off the Plaza in east Charlotte.

Police responded to a call at 6:21 a.m. to assist Medic. When they arrived, they found 37-year-old Damien Rashad Mack dead. No other details were immediately available.

Investigators are currently looking for witnesses in the area. They said it's too early to say if the shooting was random or between people who knew one another.

It was the ninth homicide of the year in Charlotte. That's compared with 14 at the same time a year ago. CMPD spokesman Rob Tufano said Wednesday morning that police have solved about half of its murder cases so far this year.
