Police have identified the man who was shot by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers Saturday morning as Bobby Morgan, 29.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department says three officers fired their weapons during the shooting which occurred at a residence on Winfield Drive, off Independence Boulevard near Albemarle Road.
CMPD says officers were called to the home around 8:30 a.m. by Morgan, who said he had a gun and was upset with neighbors. The department says when officers got to the home, they heard shots being fired inside. Morgan then barricaded himself inside the home and SWAT was called to the scene, police say.
According to CMPD, officers saw Morgan through a window of the home and saw that he was armed. When Morgan exited the house, police say, he refused to drop his weapon after officers ordered him several times to do so.
The department says the officers fired their weapons after they “perceived an imminent, deadly threat.”
Morgan was immediately detained and given medical attention on the scene before being transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, CMPD says. Police Chief Kerr Putney said Morgan was shot more than once, but could not immediately specify a number. Morgan’s condition is unknown at this time.
Putney also said the department was familiar with Morgan and had visited his residence in the past.
The three officers who fired their weapons in the incident have been identified as Joshua Skipper, Derek Rud and Edward Gonzalez. Skipper and Rud have been with CMPD since 2005. Gonzalez has been with the department since 2003.
All three have been placed on administrative leave, following standard department procedure. CMPD is investigating the shooting as well as the Internal Affairs Bureau, which is conducting a separate investigation into whether department policies and procedures were adhered to during the incident.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left at least one person injured.
The shooting occurred in the 3900 block of Winfield Drive. No officers were injured in the incident, according to the department.
CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said officers were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m. after a noise complaint. Police engaged a man at the scene who went into a residence and fired at officers from the home, Putney said. Officers then returned fire.
The department says a handgun was recovered from the scene and the man was transported to the hospital. Putney said the man was shot more than once but could not immediately specify a number. His condition was unknown.
Putney also said the department was familiar with the man and had visited his residence in the past.
