Roy Cooper addresses a Charlotte audience in September.

Friday was not a good day for Governor Pat McCrory in his effort to remain in office. Attorney General Roy Cooper extended his lead to about 6,300 votes as counties reported more provisional and absentee ballot results.

The McCrory campaign’s complaints were also rejected by elections boards in Wake and Halifax counties.

And in Durham County, the elections board rejected a request for a recount of 94,000 votes that were  cast before Election Day. Reporter Jeff Tiberii of public radio station WUNC in Chapel Hill covered the Durham County hearing. He spoke to WFAE's Sarah Delia during All Things Considered.

Sarah Delia is a Senior Producer for Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins. Sarah joined the WFAE news team in 2014. An Edward R. Murrow Award-winning journalist, Sarah has lived and told stories from Maine, New York, Indiana, Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina. Sarah received her B.A. in English and Art history from James Madison University, where she began her broadcast career at college radio station WXJM. Sarah has interned and worked at NPR in Washington DC, interned and freelanced for WNYC, and attended the Salt Institute for Radio Documentary Studies.
Jeff Tiberii first started posing questions to strangers after dinner at La Cantina Italiana, in Massachusetts, when he was two-years-old. Jeff grew up in Wayland, Ma., an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, and took summer vacations to Acadia National Park (ME) with his family. He graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and moved to North Carolina in 2006. His experience with NPR member stations WAER (Syracuse), WFDD (Winston-Salem) and now WUNC, dates back 15 years.
