Turns out the “lilting twang of the South” is the most attractive accent in North America, according to a “study” by Cupid.com. From their press release:
When it comes to romance, most of us dream of long lazy days in the sun, epic sunsets and, ahem, rolls in the hay.
The popular dating website says of the 2,000 people they polled, more than 36 percent ranked Southern first. (Men prefer Southern accents by 45 percent, ranking it first, compared to 28 percent of women).
Consume the "rankings" with a huge grain of salt:

- New York
- Western
- New England
- New Jersey
- Canadian
- Midwestern
- Mid-Atlantic
To see if there was any truth to it, we decided to do an informal poll of singles at WFAE and also found a strong preference for the Southern accent. Here's our ranking:

- Canadian (1)
- Midwestern (1)
In the “other” category: two votes for “General American” (whatever that is … ), two for British and one each for Afrikaan, Scottish, Italian and Australian.
