Dashcam Video Shows White Trooper Pushing Black Driver To Ground In Wake County

WRAL
/
North Carolina Highway Patrol

The Wake County district attorney is reviewing dashcam video of a fired white state trooper that shows him dragging a black driver out of her car during a traffic stop on March 28. This incident occurred six days before another involving the same white trooper that resulted in his firing and criminal charges being filed against him.

A judge Thursday ordered the release of the March video showing Michael Blake pulling Kimberly Ingram out of the car.

With one of his hands on her neck, Blake pushes Ingram to the ground before handcuffing her. “Wait a minute, you don’t have no right, ” Ingram says as she's on the ground.  Another trooper says, "Just relax, ma'am, just relax," as she protests what's happening to her.

Ingrams tells the troopers she wasn’t aware they were trying to pull her over.   Blake says Ingram was trying to flee from the officers.

Ingram said she had to go the hospital later that night because of injuries she received during the incident.  She later filed a civil suit against the N.C. Highway Patrol.  In a separate incident Blake faces criminal charges in the beating of a black man named Kyron Hinton in Raleigh in April.  He was fired following that incident.

Marshall came to WFAE after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he worked at the campus radio station and earned a degree in communication. Outside of radio, he loves listening to music and going to see bands - preferably in small, dingy clubs.
