An outbreak of Hepatitis A was reported in Mecklenburg County weeks ago, but five new cases have been reported since June 6 — including a Charlotte restaurant employee diagnosed Monday.

Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris said one of the cases is someone who worked at the Hardee's on Little Rock Road. She's urging anyone who ate at that restaurant between June 13 and June 23 to receive a Hepatitis A vaccination.

The Center for Disease Control says the vaccine must be given within 14 days of exposure to be effective.

“We do know that those individuals who ate there on the June 13, their last day for effective vaccination is tomorrow,” Harris said.

The county has plans to provide vaccination clinics through July 1 for people who ate at the restaurant and may have been exposed to the disease.

There have been 10 diagnosed Hepatitis A cases since April.
