Police in Charlotte are investigating two fatal shootings that occured within hours of each other Friday night, leaving two men dead.
The first was reported at 8:54 p.m. in east Charlotte off Independence Boulevard. Officers were called to an apartment on Snow Lane, where they found a man who had been shot dead. He was identified as 57-year-old Donald Myers.
About three hours later, at 11:44 p.m., police were called to an Exxon gas station in west Charlotte on Clanton Road, off I-77. There they found a man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was brought to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police later identified him as 22-year-old Kareem McLeod.
As of Saturday morning, police had not reported any arrests in either case.
The number of homicides in Charlotte has been declining since a documented spike in 2017. At https://youtu.be/R0lHKhn4QGw?t=1565">a press conference earlier this month, local police said the number of homicides in Charlotte was down about 40 percent this year compared with last. The department said about 80 percent of this year's homicides have been cleared.
With Friday's shootings, 48 people have been killed in Charlotte in 2018. The vast majority - at least 80 percent - were shot to death.
