Wells Fargo said Thursday it plans to lay off 116 workers in the Charlotte region in its third round of layoffs this year.
The Charlotte Business Journal reported that nearly all of the affected employees were based in the company’s Fort Mill, South Carolina, office. The local layoffs were part of a nationwide move, with Wells Fargo letting go of 1,000 people across the country Thursday. According to the Journal, the layoffs were mainly within the company’s consumer lending, virtual solutions and innovations divisions.
Thursday’s announcement follows a string of layoffs this summer. In June, the company let go of 100 employees in the Fort Mill office. In late August, Wells Fargo cut 101 people at its Wells Fargo Home Mortgage office in Charlotte and another five people in the Fort Mill location.
Laid off employees are eligible for pay and benefits through Jan. 13.
With the city being its largest employment hub, Wells Fargo employs roughly 25,000 people in the Charlotte region.
