Charlotte police say a woman was shot and killed near an apartment complex in east Charlotte Tuesday morning in what they believe to be an armed robbery.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they were called to an area near the Vista Villa Apartments off Barrington Drive around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday where they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Maria Eduvigig Echeverria de Gomez, was brought to Carolinas Medical Center where she died a short time later.
Police say initial information suggests the woman was shot during an armed robbery, and the suspects are two men who were seen driving away in a black sedan.
This is Charlotte's 13th homicide of the year.
