Woman Leads Police On Car Chase From Charlotte To Monroe

Amanda Sawyer after her arrest on June 4, 2018.
Mecklenburg County Jail

A woman led police on a high-speed chase yesterday from Charlotte to Monroe that ended in the woman crashing.  Police say the chase began after officers tried to pull 30-year-old Amanda Sawyer over for speeding.

She took off and eventually reached speeds of around 100 miles per hour. Police arrested Sawyer after she wrecked near Dickerson Boulevard and Highway 74.  Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department helicopters were monitoring the chase from above. Police say two children were in the car with Sawyer and that no one was seriously hurt during the chase.

Sawyer, who was wanted on several felony warrants, has been arrested 11 times in Mecklenburg County, including 5 times this year. She has been previously arrested for charges such as larceny, assault on a child under 12 and assault with a deadly weapon.
