Bruton Smith sues over tax incentives

Race track mogul Bruton Smith is now suing the City of Concord and Cabarrus County in a years-long dispute over tax incentives he was promised when he built a drag strip near Lowe's Motor Speedway. WFAE's Julie Rose reports:

Bruton Smith was already talking about suing last September when he complained that Concord and Cabarrus had backed away from their promise to reimburse him for about $80 million in road improvements he planned to make around the speedway.

The Spongetones are one of Charlotte's best-known local bands. They've been around for over 30 years. Now, their fame appears to be spreading to -of all places - Japan. Army study pushes for extremity trauma answers

A Charlotte doctor is coordinating an Army-sponsored consortium that will study extremity injuries and how to improve treating them.

Dr. Michael Bosse of the Carolinas Medical Center says that bone reconstruction and infection especially need more research.

"Those two areas right now are the problem areas in the military trauma patients but also in the civilian trauma patients so I think it's a good match of needs," Bosse says.

Lassiter faces Foxx in the race for Charlotte mayor; Five incumbents win city council seats

After yesterday's primary Charlotte has just two candidates, both city councilman, running for mayor. Republican John Lassiter will face Democrat Anthony Foxx in the general election come November. Last night, Lassiter got 79 percent of the vote, defeating council's constant critic Martin Davis. Foxx did not have a Democratic challenger in the primary.
