Dancing with, for the homeless

Julie Rose

MULTIMEDIA

People with a place to call home rarely find themselves hanging out with the homeless. If they do, the line between them can be painfully obvious.

Those differences disappeared Saturday night in the fellowship hall at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Charlotte when a group of homeless people asked the community to dance. In this segment, WFAE's Julie Rose captures the sounds and inspiration for the event.

Mecklenburg County Commissioner George Dunlap attended the Homeless Helping Homeless dance and fund-raiser. Homeless Helping Homeless is a program of the Urban Ministry Center in which homeless and formerly homeless people advocate for more affordable housing.
