June 11, 2010 | NPR · A rescue effort is under way for Abby Sunderland, 16, who was attempting to sail around the world solo. An Airbus A330 spotted her boat in an upright position and made contact with her via radio. A spokesman says she's doing fine after running into rough seas.
 
June 11, 2010 | NPR · The federal government has come up with a new estimate of the size of the Gulf oil spill. The figures indicate the blown-out well may have spewed as much as 2.1 million gallons of oil per day. The estimate indicates the leak already has put 4 to 8 times more oil into the water than the Exxon Valdez spill.
 
June 11, 2010 | NPR · Tension is growing on the border between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. An American border agent shot and killed a Mexican teen, who was reportedly throwing rocks. Cell phone video that contains vivid pictures of the shooting has been broadcast by Univision.
 
June 11, 2010 | NPR · An Army investigation has found more than 200 cases at Arlington National Cemetery involving mismanagement of grave sites. In some cases, graves were marked improperly. In others, remains were found in graves marked as empty. The Army has disciplined the two top officials at Arlington and brought in a new temporary superintendent.

June 11, 2010 | NPR · Wildlife officials closed an area in the Gulf where oysterman Mitch Jurisich has been farming oysters for years. He sold them to Al Sunseri, president of P&J Oyster. The other six or seven oystermen Sunseri normally buys from had already been shut down by the spill -- Jurisich was his only source left.
