Spain's national dance, the flamenco, is a highly technical form of dance, with intricate rhythms and steps -- but it's also improvisatory. And its most important characteristic is an underlying rhythmic drive. As part of a continuing series on the connection between folk music from around the world and western classical music, NPR's Fred Child talks with Eva Encinias, a professor of flamenco at the University of New Mexico, and director of the National Institute of Flamenco.
