Amato Wants 49ers Coaching Gig

The Charlotte Observer reports that former NC State coach Chuck Amato wants to be the first head coach for UNC-Charlotte's football program. He's applied for the job. "I'd love to be the guy there, it would be a real neat thing to do," he tells the Observer's David Scott. NC-State fired Amato in 2007, but the team went to five bowl games in his seven years there. UNC-Charlotte Athletic Director Judy Rose wants a coach by April 1. The team will begin play in 2013 in the division formerly known as Division 1-AA. Meanwhile, Rose and UNC-Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 9, to discuss the football program. It will start at 4 p.m. at McKnight Hall.
