Reporter (Full-Time, 6 months)

WFAE, Q City Metro, the Charlotte Ledger and La Noticia are teaming up for a collaborative reporting project on the economic impact of COVID-19 on communities of color in Charlotte.
We are seeking a temporary, full-time reporter to work with this team for six months. The primary focus is on stories that go beyond daily news, although the reporter will be called upon to file breaking news stories when relevant to the beat. The successful applicant will have strong research and interview skills, and the ability to use data as foundation for stories. In addition to writing for digital audiences, the reporter will be called upon to provide analysis and two-way story debriefs for broadcast. The reporter must have the ability to develop their own story ideas as well as work on assignments from editors. The reporter will be required to take photos and record audio and video when necessary.
Weekend and evening work may be required. This job is located in Charlotte, N.C. This position is grant supported, and there is no guarantee of work after the six-month period ends. Applicants who are not able to work full-time still may be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong news judgment
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Ability to produce content for digital and broadcast formats
- Ability to effectively use digital platforms for engagement, and content gathering and distribution
- Ability to be nimble in a fast-paced news environment
- Ability and willingness to work varied shifts
