We'll study a proposal to modernize our state's tax code today on Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins. North Carolina's tax code was created in the 1920s and '30s, and has stayed largely unchanged since. The state's economy, however, has changed dramatically from a mainly agrarian and manufacturing based economy to a service economy. For the most part, the state's tax revenues have failed to keep up with those changes and there are voices calling for a modernization of the tax code. We'll learn about what we pay in taxes, where the money goes, and how modernization might change the long standing tax code.
