Slavery by Another Name

Slavery By Another Name Mississippi native Doug Blackmon won a Pulitzer for his book Slavery by Another Name, a book exposing a little known period after the Civil War where thousands of African-Americans were arrested and charged with fines they couldn't pay. The prisoners were then forced to work off their debts in mines, lumber camps, railroads and plantations. Doug Blackmon uncovered this ugly piece of American history that continued up to the beginning of World War II. We'll talk to Mr. Blackmon about his research and the book and the people he profiled.
