Event Description

A compelling triple bill that celebrates the centennial of two landmark artists – Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins – introduces Charlotte to French Choreographer Medhi Walerski and premieres a new work by Sasha Janes. JEROME ROBBINS’ FANCY FREE Experience Robbins’ legendary Fancy Free set to Bernstein’s score in a historic collaboration between the two creatives. Set in New York in the 1940’s, join three playful sailors as they try to meet women before shipping out to World War II. Fancy Free was the beginning of a lifelong collaboration and friendship for these creative geniuses and is being celebrated around the world for Robbins’ and Bernstein’s 100-year anniversaries. WORLD PREMIERE: NEW WORK BY SASHA JANES Called a “choreographer to watch” by the Washington Post, Resident Choreographer SASHA JANES creates a world premiere set to Bernstein’s iconic music. A Charlotte Ballet favorite, Sasha returns with a brand new ballet! MEDHI WALERSKI’S PETITE CÉRÉMONIE To round out this exciting triple bill, Artistic Director Hope Muir introduces Charlotte audiences to French choreographer Medhi Walerski’s Petite Cérémonie, which reviewers call a “light-hearted piece full of spunky energy.”
