CMS students are headed back to school Wednesday morning after three snow days. Schools closed Friday as snow and sleet fell on the region. The ice started thawing Sunday and most streets were back to normal by Monday, but CMS schools remained closed.
Superintendent Ann Clark says a crew of about 200 worked to clear schools, but many parking lots and walkways were still coated in ice Monday evening. CMS received a lot of complaints about the snow days. At last night’s board meeting, Clark defended the decision to close schools all three days.
“We simply did not have an ability to get students off the bus and into the building and, then, moving around the building, particularly on our high school campuses, safely,” said Clark. “At the end of the day I’m going to weigh all the considerations--child care, work schedules--but I’m going to land on safety.”
Students will make up those snow days February 15 and April 25.
