15-year-old girl murdered at bus stop; baby in critical condition

A CMS bus stop is a murder scene. A 15-year-old Hawthorne High School junior was shot and killed yesterday morning. She was also eight months pregnant. Doctors delivered the baby after girl died in the hospital. The baby is alive, but in critical condition. WFAE's Lisa Miller has more: At about 6 a.m. Monday, police say Tiffany Wright was outside waiting for a school bus across the street from her house. Neighbors say they heard a few shots. At least one of them hit her in the head. She died shortly after she was taken to the hospital. Police have arrested Wright's step-brother 36-year-old Royce Mitchell, not for the shooting, but for an outstanding warrant for statutory rape in July. Police say that Wright was the victim in that case. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police ambiguously referred to him as a person of interest. What exactly that means is unclear. The shooting occurred in a nice, middle-class neighborhood just off Mallard Creek Road on the outskirts of the Derita community. There have been a few problems lately with break-ins, but nothing that made anyone scared to go out, according to a woman with the community watch group. "I hate for my kids to see that or even be a part of that. The tape. So now you're going to have to do work to clear up and explain to them what took place and try to tell them why if you can ever tell them why."
