In March, WFAE reported on the financial strains that the towns of Mooresville and Davidson are experiencing from their joint ownership of the Mi-Connection cable company they formed 2.5 years ago. The towns had to plug a $576,000 mid-year budget shortfall, and next year's debt payments will rise by nearly $2.5 million dollars. Now, Mi-Connection could have direct costs to Davidson residents whether or not they're customers of the cable company. To continue subsidizing Mi-Connection, Davidson's town manger has recommended a $206 garbage collection fee for all single-family homes, and $104 for condos and apartments. (From DavidsonNews.net: Town budget has no tax hike, but adds trash pickup fee). Garbage collection is currently funded by property taxes. The town board will vote on the proposed budget later this month. For a list of other DavidsonNews.net stories regarding Mi-Connection, click here.
