Ice Disrupts Majority Of Flights At Charlotte Airport

http://66.225.205.104/JR20110111a.mp3

Freezing temperatures and lingering ice have disrupted the majority of flights at the Charlotte airport. Charlotte's airport runways managed to stay busy yesterday, despite the heavy snow fall. But ice and freezing rain are a different story. Since early this morning, only a limited number of flights have managed to come or go from Charlotte-Douglas. Slick loading ramps and a shortage of deicing fluid are making things worse. The largest airline in Charlotte - US Airways - has cancelled the majority of its operations for the rest of the day, including arrivals. American, Delta, United and JetBlue all have limited flights in and out of Charlotte today, but airport officials say Continental, AirTran and Lufthansa are operating a full schedule. Many airlines have relaxed their reservation policies so travelers can alter their flight plans without paying fees. Still, passengers are having a tough time finding open seats on the few flights managing to get out of the Southeast in this winter weather.
