Duke CEO Makes Large Donation To Queens University
Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers donated $4.1 million to Queens University. It will be used to build an environmentally-friendly science and health building. Queens University spokeswoman Vanessa Willis says that donations will fund the entire cost of the $17.4 million building. Willis says, "We've had some large gifts from friends of Queens, both alums and people in the community who know what we're doing and participate in our events, and are involved as friends; and then we've also had major gifts from groups including the Duke Energy Foundation, who has given more than one million dollars to help us." The building will house all of the math and science programs and the administrative offices for the Blair College of Health. Construction is scheduled in May and should be completed for the Fall 2012 semester.
