Clover School District Offers Workshop On How To Pay For College
High school students often hear a lot about choosing a college, but not necessarily how to pay for it. Clover School district in York County is hosting a workshop tonight to help students and their families understand student loans and other options for financing a college education. "In this economy there are a lot of concerns about paying for college," says Jennifer Forrest, a counselor at Clover high school who arranged the event. "I think it used to be much more common just to take out student loans. And now our families are realizing that you can take out too much in student loans and put a burden on students." The district will have representatives from Duke, Winthrop, and two local USC campuses. They'll talk about competitive scholarships, grants, work-study programs and student loans. A few banks will also offer information on 529 plans. The workshop starts at 5:30 at Clover High School. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is also holding two workshops this week on filling out federal student loan forms. Those will take place tomorrow night at the Independence branch and Saturday morning at the Beatties Ford Road library.
