Robert Koch
As director of development, Robert leads WFAE’s fundraising efforts with Leadership Circle donors, Legacy Society commitments and foundation grants. His role includes working directly with the strategic work of WFAE’s board of directors, including the Development and Nominations committees, plus facilitating the external work of President & CEO Joe O’Connor.
Managing a team of two development officers, Amy Vavra and Sarah Hayden, Robert also works with Jeff Bundy, executive director of branding and engagement, and Lisa Gergely, executive director of corporate development.
Since joining WFAE’s leadership team in August 2018, Robert oversaw the largest numerical and percentage increase in Leadership Circle donors, including a record high of 363 in FY20 for a first-time impact of more than $1 million. Additional investments during Robert’s service to WFAE include the Holly and Paul Freestone Health Care Reporting Fellowship and multiple Report For America positions.
Robert is a proud Davidson alum, having previously spent a 15-year career in higher education, and lives in Charlotte with his wife, two girls and a couple of rescue dogs.
