Police say two people were shot and killed in separate homicides late Saturday and early Sunday in Charlotte, including a juvenile.

Deontray Love, 19, was shot to death in east Charlotte about 7:50 p.m. Saturday — just hours before his 20th birthday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Love was in a confrontation with several people he knew. The argument started at a Fast Mart on Lawyers Road and continued later near the intersection of North Idlewild Road and Snow Lane, where Love was shot.

Police say the group fled after Love was shot. Paramedics took Love to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died.

Police arrested 45-year-old Damion Lamont Baxter and charged him with murder in Love's slaying.

A few hours later, about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, police were called to the 5800 block of Linda Vista Lane, near Sunset Road just west of Interstate 77. There, they found 16-year-old Fabrizio Alejandro Davalos lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was next to a running, unoccupied car that had also apparently been shot, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Paramedics took the Davalos to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died.

Police say Davalos had left a nearby party shortly before he was shot.

There have been 85 homicides in Charlotte this year.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking anyone with information that can help them with either case to call 704-432-8477.
