2019 Election: Mint Hill Board Of Commissioners

There are five seats on the Mint Hill Board of Commissioners. Six people are running for open positions, including two incumbents.

Richard Cochrane

RICHARD M. COCHRANE (incumbent)

Why are you running?

I love the Town of Mint Hill and the people I have grown to love as I have lived here all of my life. I want to ensure the best I can that our police and first responders are the best we can supply to protect and serve our population.

What is the biggest quality-of-life issue facing residents of your town and how will you address it?

We are a Town with many seniors are more are moving in each month. With that in mind I fell like I mentioned above that we need to ensure a good police force to protect our population and a great first responder team to serve us in time of need.

How should your town deal with rising housing costs?

We are having builders build homes on smaller lots which not only helps in the cost of a home but will help with less upkeep for the owners.

Why are you running?

I’m running for office now because of the void that has been left by losing Tina Ross. I have always loved politics. The idea of governing and having the ability to make things better for people just seems like work that is worthy of doing. Tina was an inspiration to me and so many others, I want to honor her work by continuing it.

What is the biggest quality-of-life issue facing residents of your town and how will you address it?

Growth and how we shape it is the single biggest issue facing Mint Hill and its future.

I feel we need to tackle that with a new master plan with fresh input from the community. I will support forming a new committee to come up with a new plan for our town’s future and then following it as closely as possible in all relevant decisions.

How should your town deal with rising housing costs?

I’m honestly not sure how much is in the town’s power to combat this issue, but I recognize it as an issue we face and I plan to investigate all options available to deal with it.

TONY LONG
