Accused UNCC Shooter Is A No Show In Court

NC Courts

The man accused of fatally shooting two UNC Charlotte students and leaving four others injured was scheduled to have his first appearance in court today but that didn’t happen.

Although 22-year-old Trystan Terrell was scheduled for his first appearance at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, he waived his right to appear before district court judge Ron Chapman. The main purpose of the hearing was to appoint a public defender.

Mike Kabakoff  who is representing Terrell was quick to point out it’s within his client’s rights not to attend this first hearing and it’s often advised. Terrell is currently being held without bond at the Mecklenburg County jail.

Jay Ashendorf, the assistant district attorney assigned to the case read off the charges:

"Your honor the defendant is charged with two counts of first degree murder, four counts of attempted 1st degree murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of possession a firearm on educational property, and one count of discharging a firearm on educational property."

His next court date is scheduled for May 15 for a bond hearing. However, that date is subject to change if he is indicted by a grand jury. His case would then be bumped up to Superior court and a new hearing could be scheduled.
