Blue Line Light Rail To Close For Weekend For Maintenance

The Blue Line will be closed Oct. 19-20 for annual maintenance.

The LYNX Blue Line will close Saturday and Sunday for annual maintenance and bus service will be added in place of light rail service, the Charlotte Area Transit System said. Regular service will resume Monday.

The closure is necessary for CATS, the Charlotte Department of Transportation and Charlotte Engineering and Property Management to make repairs and upgrades to the rail system, CATS said. Work on the Blue Line will include track maintenance, adding ballast, painting, landscaping and grade crossing work.

"Regular maintenance is essential to preserving our transit system," CATS CEO John Lewis said in a statement. "CATS's goal is to perform all necessary repairs and upkeep at once. This will ultimately extend the life of our system and minimize overall disruptions to riders."

Each light rail station will have signs directing customers to the nearest bus stop. Passengers should board buses with the "LYNX Connector" sign at bus stops that also are labeled "LYNX Connector."

Staff will be on hand at the CTC/Arena Station to assist passengers with that transfer.

For more information, see the CATS website, or contact CATS customer service at 704-RIDE (7433).
