A bridge over Interstate 77 in Huntersville is back open after being closed for two years.
I-77 Express says the new Hambright Road bridge opened to traffic Wednesday morning. The bridge was closed during construction of I-77 toll lanes.
I-77 Express says crews will continue to work on the ramps that will connect Hambright Road to the interstate, and that those ramps should open when the southern portion of toll lanes opens later this year.
The overall toll-lane project, which adds express lanes on I-77 from Charlotte to the Lake Norman area, has been under construction for nearly four years. The northern section opened in early June.
Work on new toll lanes in southern Mecklenburg County, meanwhile, is set to start later this summer. In that project, express lanes will be added on Interstate 485 between I-77 and U.S. 74.
