Charlotte Talks: CATS CEO John Lewis On What’s Next For The LYNX Silver Line & Transit Planning

WFAE/Erin Keever

Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019

The LYNX Silver Line from Matthews to Belmont is closer to reality but it's just one of the things we talk about with CATS CEO John Lewis and city planners.

The Silver Line light rail project is a little further down the tracks now that Charlotte City Council has approved a $50 million contract for preliminary design work. But many questions remain, chief among them – how will we pay for it?

The 26-mile project would connect Matthews to Belmont through uptown and the airport, and is expected to cost $3-4 billion. The proposed route has come under some criticism because it skirts the edge of center city and doesn’t connect directly through the airport terminal.

We talk with city officials, including CATS CEO John Lewis, to hear their pitch and find some answers.
