Combating America's opioid crisis is an international effort. The State Department's James Walsh is playing a role in that fight, and he joins Mike Collins for a look at what the government is doing abroad to address opioid use at home.
In 2018, the government reported that North Carolina had the second-highest increase in opioid deaths in the country, and blamed it on the prevalence of fentantyl, a synthetic opioid that has driven the country's opioid crisis.
Much of the fentanyl is coming from China and Mexico, said James Walsh of the State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Walsh has come to Charlotte to speak with the World Affairs Council about the government's efforts to bring other countries on board with the opioid fight.
