Charlotte Talks Local News Roundup: 9th District Primary; Board of Elections Director Out; More

Friday, May 17, 2019

State Senator Dan Bishop gets to run for Congress in the 9th District, winning the special primary.  North Carolina’s Board of Elections executive director is fired and replaced.  The Charlotte Catholic Diocese will release the names of clergy credibly accused of child sex abuse.  And the Gold Line streetcar is about to close for 18 months.

Dan Bishop won the Republican Primary for the special 9th Congressional District election on Tuesday, and is immediately turning to the September general election fight against Democrat Dan McCready.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections executive director is fired and replaced. What happened with Kim Strach, the outgoing executive director?

The Charlotte Catholic Diocese says it will release names of clergy who have been credibly accused of child sex abuse. Bishop Peter Jugis said this week that the list should be published by the end of the year. The names will come from allegations dating back to the inception of the diocese in 1972.
