The Mecklenburg County budget was approved this week, and includes a property tax increase. The new toll lanes on I-77 are open in Northern Mecklenburg- but there’s still confusion on how much it will cost to drive the lanes, and some vow never to use them. Mecklenburg County has an approved budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and it includes a property tax increase. The budget approval meeting started with jabs among the commissioners about whether or not the budget process was transparent.
The I-77 toll road opened this week in northern Mecklenburg, but some are still unclear about how they'll be charged for using the road, and others vow never to drive on it.
Funding for affordable housing in Charlotte got another boost this week with major donation pledges by Fifth-Third and Atrium Health. This puts Charlotte’s private sector affordable housing fund at $44 million of its $50 million goal.
A proposed noise ordinance for Charlotte was discussed at this week’s Charlotte City Council meeting. The council is considering the changes to address the protests at the Preferred Women’s Health Center on Latrobe Drive in Charlotte. We’ll talk about what the council members said in the discussion and when a vote might take place.
That happens in the same week that the national president of Planned Parenthood visited Charlotte for a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new clinic that offers abortion services. We’ll discuss her comments about the state of women’s health in America.
