Charlotte Talks: Mayor And City Manager On Weathering Charlotte's Economic Storm

Chris Miller/WFAE

Wednesday, May 13, 2020

Mayor Vi Lyles talks about plans to help small businesses recover and City Manager Marcus Jones shares details of the proposed city budget, which takes into account the economic downturn.

Once a month, we sit down with Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. As we meet Wednesday, we’re in the first week of a reopening of commerce that was shut down as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

We get Lyles' thoughts on that process and her plans to help small businesses recover, as well as her confidence in GOP insistence they can hold their national convention here in August and keep everyone – delegates, the president, the media and us – safe!

Plus, Marcus Jones, Charlotte’s city manager will be here. He’s put together a proposed budget for the next fiscal year which avoids city employee layoffs and does so with no tax increase. That's no small feat considering the economic downturn we find ourselves in.
