Charlotte Talks: Mint Exhibit Looks At Our Relationship With Technology And Nature

Studio Drift / Mint Museum

Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019

Dutch artist collective Studio Drift's sculptures have been described as breathtaking and thought-provoking. The Mint Museum is preparing to host Studio Drift's first U.S. exhibit, and the group's co-founders discuss their work.

The exhibit, "Immersed in Light," explores the interplay between humans, nature and technology. One of the pieces, "Fragile Future" (pictured above), is made of dandelion seeds glued to LED lights.

"If you really look very closely to everything around us, how things in nature are constructed, it's so complicated and so well done, and it's also logical," said Studio Drift co-founder Lonneke Gordijn. "You really wonder if nature is not the high-tech part in our world."

This summer, one of the group's signature pieces, "Franchise Freedom," was commissioned by NASA to be used in its celebration of the Apollo 11 anniversary.

We learn more about the artists described as "some of the 21st Century's greatest art minds."
