Charlotte Talks News Roundup: Too Late To Tweak Districts, Feds Want Voter Data, CIAA Bid Finalized

Friday, September 7, 2018

On the Local News Roundup: A federal 3-judge panel decides North Carolina Congressional districts stay the way they’ve been drawn – for now.  The Senate’s hearings for Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh take center stage.  We hear what our state’s lawmakers have to say.  The Justice Department subpoenas voter data for dozens of North Carolina counties going back 8 years.  And Charlotte finalizes its bid for the CIAA tournament.

It’s now too latefor new North Carolina Congressional Districts to be re-drawn before the November election. A panel of federal judges has concluded that the rush to change the maps, which were ruled unconstitutional, would be disruptive and perhaps affect voter turnout. We’ll discuss the latest.

While the sometimes raucous Supreme Court nomination hearings for Brett Kavanaugh have been center stage this week, with frequent outbursts from protesters, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has been outspoken in his praise about the president’s choice of Kavanaugh. We’ll hear what he and Senator Thom Tillis had to say.

The U.S. Justice Department subpoenaed voter data for dozens of counties in North Carolina this week, calling for information on eight years’ worth of voting records.
