Veteran journalist and political commentator Cokie Robertsdied Tuesday at the age of 75. She was known as one of the "founding mothers" of public radio. We remember her by listening back to our 2014 conversation about the remarkable women in our nation's history.

Longtime NPR and ABC political commentator and former congressional correspondent Cokie Roberts was in broadcasting for more than 50 years. She shared her political expertise with listeners around the country, and inspired young female broadcasters in the process.

A multi-Emmy Award winner, Roberts was named one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting, according to American Women in Radio and Television. The Library of Congress named her a "living legend," a rare honor. She wrote many books about women in American history, including one we talked to her about a few years ago, "Founding Mothers."

Most of us have heard about the founding fathers since we were little children. They are woven into the fabric of American society and, despite the fact that many cannot name their congressman, people can identify the founding fathers. Well, what about the founding mothers?

We listen back to our 2014 conversation with Roberts about the amazing accomplishments of the nation's founding mothers from Abigail Adams to the lesser known women in the nation's early days.
