The City of Charlotte now has a new records request tracker. The feature on the Open Data Portal tracks the status of your public records request, and others can too. Britt Clampitt, of the City of Charlotte, said the move is about transparency.
“You can go on there and you can just look through all the public records request we’ve received across the city — from members of the media, residents, or really anybody who ask for records from the city," Clampitt said. "You can search records, you can see who requested them... when, and the status of those records.”
Clampitt said the number of record requests the city received tripled from 2015 through 2018.
The tracker is available on the on the city’s website. It shows 137 requests for 2019. Many are from media organizations, but there are also request from companies, colleges and the general public. It also lists the records they are seeking.
