CMPD Identifies Suspect In Sexual Assault Of Security Guard

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Sexual Assault Unit is seeking the public’s help in locating Robert Codaryl Harrison. He is wanted for sexually assaulting a female security guard on June 3.

Lieutenant Muriel Hughes says the assault happened around 2:45 a.m. at an apartment building under construction in South End on New Bern Street.

“A security guard that was working on duty was doing her routine rounds of patrolling the building when she was approached by a suspect that had a gun. The suspect forced her into a room where he sexually assaulted her,” Hughes said.

Police say the security guard had previous run-ins with the suspect. She first encountered him last week when he was found sleeping in the building. She had to forcefully tell him to leave. He returned late Sunday at the beginning of her shift to apologize. He came back for a third time early Monday. Hughes says that’s when the suspect assaulted her.

“What’s troubling is that this suspect is a predator. And he waited for this victim to go inside the building to assault her, and when you do this that is someone who does not have any scruples or morals to me at all," Hughes said.

Police say they believe the suspect is homeless and was using the unoccupied building as shelter.
