Police say they had been looking for the man suspected of killing two people at a south Charlotte home early Sunday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say John James Boceck, 23, had an outstanding warrant against him on a charge of assault against a 16-year-old girl who lived in the home.
“They were actively working on trying to find him," CMPD Homicide Unit Major Cam Selvey said in a news conference Monday. He said officers had been looking for Bocek because he had outstanding warrants on charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after an incident at the home last week.
"The information that I’ve read from some of our case reports was the victim in that report didn’t necessarily know where he was living," Selvey said. "I think he may have moved from his original location.”

According to CMPD's report, police were called to the home on Glen Abbey Way, near Providence Country Club, around 4 a.m. They found the bodies of Matthew Allen Chaplin, 51, and Jenna Elizabeth Hewitt, 15, as well as the injured Bocek.
Police said an investigation found that Bocek knew a 16-year-old girl who lives at the home. She was not hurt and was able to run to a neighbor's house and call 911. Selvey wouldn’t give details on the relationshiop between Bocek and the 16-year-old.
According to police, Bocek forced his way into the home, then shot Chaplin and Hewitt, who was staying overnight as a guest of the 16-year-old.
Police say Bocek shot himself during the incident and died later Sunday from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office records show Bocek had been arrested in 2017 on charges including assault on a female, cyberstalking and breaking and entering. His address at that time was listed as Indian Trail.
